Wow! That software is amazing. And the creative possibilities are enormous. Redmatica’s Andrea Gozzi (”il professore”), demo’ed some of what Keymap, Autosampler and EXS Manager can do. And I mean “some” - the software is loaded with tricks up its’ sleeve. I think many in the group were sold, and started having there credit cards glow in their pockets. Andrea was a great presenter, and showed his passion for supporting musicians and our creative process is at the heart of his development philosophy. Cool!
We did record audio of the meeting, and this should post soon on the podcasts page. You owe it to yourself to spend a little time with the demo of Redmatica’s software.

Alan is a passionate devotee of the highly professional Metric Halo hardware and software line. He’s also their “rep” and much more, so he knows their stuff inside and out. He showed as the first peek anywhere of the upcoming Version 5 software and the new DSP that will be available in Metric Halo interfaces later this year. Their mixing and customized DSP environment is a model of power and flexibility. This is a small company that is dedicated to supporting their customers forever.

Ton Cariddi from Apogee Electronics walked us though the whole line of Apogee gear. We all want some!

We showed off Logic 8’s surround capabilities with help from Apple’s Bill Lee. Jonathan explained a bit about the Space Designer Impulse Response formats in various suround and true stereo configurations. If anyone is a real expert on surround and B-format, please email me!

The Logic Studio Team Invades NY!

You had to be there! We had over 140 attendees at the Apple Store in Soho to come check out Bob Hunt, Scott Wilkie, and Alec Liittle, from Apple’s Logic team. These folks gave a great overview of Logic 8 and Main Stage, with help from Apple’s Xander Soren on guitar. Software engineers Steffan Deidrichson and Steffan Gehring and product designer Manfred Knaupf were on hand to chat with folks after the show. They pulled this off in spite of having already spent 4 days at the AES show in NYC demoing Logic studio. These guys rock!

Unfortunately, videotaping was not allowed, so that bit of history will go undocumented. We are in a ogic 8 world, and I can see that this is only the beginning of a great new phase in Logic’s development. I was totally impressed by the team. More to come!

This was our first meeting to be videotaped, recorded October 30, 2006. I found Toby’s presentation to be extremely refreshing, informative and enjoyable. Toby specializes in working with young artists, in comfortable and creative environments. He is a master at taking his portable setup aned using it to create great pop songs and records. (Disclaimer: Toby mentions that the Logic multipressor “beat the mastering” of Bob Ludwig, regarding a particular final mix selection. Please note that he confused the names during the presentation. The masters that were rejected were from Bernie Grundman mastering in LA, not Bob Ludwig.)

We had a fascinating meeting, hosting engineer and producer Tim Gilles, at Dale Pro Audio. Tim and Big Blue Meanie studios have been using Logic as an integral part of his workflow for many years in producing a style of music not usually associated with Digital Audio sequencers.

Tim described his detailed and unusual workflow putting out rock records using Logic Pro and EXS24. He has a wealth of experience and insight, and a totally unique personal style! Check out the video podcast.

Big Blue Meanie Studios:

Big Blue Meenie is one of the oldest, largest, and certainly the most prolific “Open for Hire” private production houses for rock music on the east coast of this nation.
. . . .

512 Paterson Plank Road has been host to an amazing array of artists spanning all genres of music. 24 Gold and 10 Platinum records have been mixed and or recorded here over that time.

Older rock acts such as Rage Against the Machine and INXS were mixed here by Andy Wallace in the Quantum era. Newer acts like Thursday and Taking Back Sunday were recorded and mixed here by Tim Gilles and Sal Villanueva since 1998, as well as hundreds of worthy, if somewhat lesser known records which we have had the privilege to be associated with.

Some of these include some cult classics and seminal underground smashes like S.O.D., The Toadies, Jeff Buckley and Sepultura. For the last decade, the BBM Production Staff of about a dozen engineers and producers have made literally hundreds of records front to back.
About Tim Gilles:

Tim “Rumblefish” Gilles has mixed/produced and mastered literally hundreds of records, ranging from self funded to independent and major label projects in his 20 year career. He founded Big Blue in 1988 and has propelled it from a one man operation to the business that it is today.
